DormAid is a similar
company to MAID 101 that provides cleaning services to dorm rooms across
college campuses. They have a very extensive business plan that offers many
services to students at various fees. DormAid provides the basic cleaning such as
dusting and vacuuming, however MAID 101 goes one step beyond providing
customized cleanings that the customer may request on top of the basics at no
extra charge. Another difference between MAID 101 and DormAid is how they
interact with their customers through social media. On the DormAid website
there is no clear link to a Facebook or Twitter page advertising ways to reach
out to mass media sources. DormAid does have a blog with various posts and
special offers similar to MAID 101. The one thing I do like about DormAid is
the frequently asked questions page that details specifics about the company.
This is certainly something I could incorporate into my company as another
source of fact based information. DormAid also puts a time limit as too how
long a cleaning can last at two hours. This could potentially cause the
cleaners to miss areas of the room if they are on a time limit. MAID 101 will
not put a specific time period on how long cleanings will last in order to
assure the room is 100% clean to the customers’ satisfaction.
Lazybones is a well-known service across the country that specializes in doing laundry. Although they do not provide cleaning services yet this company has established itself in the market for being a reliable business provided to college students and has received great reviews. Lazybones has the access by many college dorms to enter inside to pick up laundry bags. Security is one of the most important issues when running a service to colleges in order to prevent theft. Due to lazybones having a great reputation many colleges allow the company to enter the building when they arrive. As MAID 101 is a new service it will take many positive reviews for a college to grant access to an outside business not owned by the college itself. The Lazybones website is very user friendly explaining all the specifics of the services they provide. However, as observed by many friends who use Lazybones for their laundry I’ve found a difference that MAID 101 provides. Lazybones does not specify what time of the day they come to pick up the bags which could result in the student missing the pick up all together. MAID 101 will always text or call the student to notify them the cleaning crew will arrive at a specific time. This allows for the student to plan their day accordingly without having to worry about when the service will arrive.
Competitors exist in most markets making businesses constantly look for new ways to make them unique and stand out. Overall
these two competitors are developed companies that have positive reputations
and have established their presence at numerous schools. In order for MAID 101
to compete in this market the company has to continue to grow popularity and
interact with potential customers to increase feedback that could be
improvements. DormAid and Lazybones have broken the security barrier to gain
access into colleges and MAID 101 must follow the same in order to make this
business a success. The hope for MAID 101 is that the company will continue to
grow to rise to the level of these two entrepreneurship businesses.
